Scam calls and texts, caught before they work.
Two iPhone apps are being built to help people spot the scripts scammers use. They are in development and not in the App Store yet.
Status. Both apps work in our test builds. They have not been submitted to the App Store, and we are not promising a release date.
Phantom Phone Sentinel
Helps label and block known scam numbers on your iPhone. You can also report a call you got: describe what happened and it explains which scam script it matches and what to do next.
An iPhone only lets an app label or block specific phone numbers, so the app cannot listen to your calls. It works from the numbers you add and from what you describe.
Phantom Text Blocker
Filters suspicious texts using a filter that runs on your phone. It works offline, so your messages are not sent to us. You keep your own allow and block lists.
The scripts they look for
Scams follow patterns. The apps are built around tactics like these:
- Pressure to keep it secret or not tell family
- Threats of arrest, fines or lost benefits
- Someone pretending to be a government office, a bank or tech support
- Requests to pay by gift card, wire or crypto
- Codes sent to you that the caller asks you to read back
- Requests to install software or share your screen
- Fake urgency, romance grooming, and prizes that need a fee first
